The photos below are presented in chronological order of taking.

Approaching Porvoo's historic district, we passed this shop that had a nice sign begging to be featured as a photo foreground item.

At the next corner, we made a right turn, which brought us right onto Kirkkokatu, a cobblestone road leading uphill towards Porvoo Cathedral. The road is lined with colorful old buildings.

At the top of the hill, there was an intersection of roads with some more historic wooden buildings to be enjoyed.

From here, like the people in the previous photo, we followed Kulmakuja, a narrow road that passed a small park called Kellorinne.

We continued following the road that looped through a quiet residential area in counterclockwise direction.

We then reached Pirunportaat (The Devil's Stairs) - according to an old folk tale, the devil himself created this natural stone staircase. It certainly looks like something that could get devilishly slippery during wet or freezing weather.

After safely passing this natural obstacle, we soon reached Porvoo Cathedral. It was built in the 15th century, although its oldest parts date from the 13th century. The tower on the right is called Pikkukirkko (The Little Church).

We then left the cathedral area and walked in southeastern direction along Vuorikatu.

Walking down Ralinginkuja, a narrow alley, provided this lovely perspective of Porvoo's old town scenery.

We emerged at this spacious square which was encircled with old buildings housing shops, restaurants and a museum.

From here, it was just a short walk to the Porvoonjoki River. After a quick break for a cup of coffee and a Runeberg Cake (the typical local sweet treat), we enjoyed this view of Porvoo's famous historic red warehouses along the river.

We really enjoyed visiting Porvoo and its historic district. Getting there from Helsinki was fairly easy, as there are regular bus connections from Helsinki's Kamppi area.
